BAPTIST YOUTH IMPACT
The official youth and campus arm of the Metropolitan Ministries started out in June of 1975. After a successful three-year stint as youth director in his church, Dr. Benny Abante Jr. followed the call of God to start a brand new work in the heart of Manila, in the highly religious town of Sta. Ana. He started out with what he knew best–reaching out to the youth.
After having won 8 people to Christ, the Baptist Youth Impact was born on June 12, 1975. Back then, it had been named as the Confederation of Baptist Students. It was a few months before the Bible Baptist Mission of Sta. Ana was started that the name was changed to Baptist Youth impact.
The first ever Campus Bible Study of the BYI was started in Adamson University. The fire of evangelism in the Vincentian brothers-run university was caught by nearby schools like UP Diliman, Philippine Normal College (now PNU), Philippine Women’s University, and Manila Science High School. The gospel flames soon came to the Quiapo-Morayta University Belt, where BYI Bible Studies were started in FEU, UE, UST, and CEU. The BYI in the Intramuros U-Belt also started at Mapua Institute of Technology and PLM. The phenomenal growth of the BYI signalled also the growth in the upstart church, whose majority of members wher college and high school students.
Today, the BYI is represented in more than 35 colleges and 22 high schools in Metro Manila alone. It now has other BYI chapters in Isabela, Baguio, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bataan, Tacloban, Bacolod City, Bohol, Cebu and Davao.
The BYI is divided into two main groups: the Youth Alive Department is the youth group among college students, while the Teen Impact Department is for the high schoolers.
Among the many ministries being served under the BYI are the Campus Bible Studies, Youth Alive and Teen Impact iREACH Programs, the Mitosis Method of Soul Winning and Discipleship Program. Each year, the BYI also hosts youth-oriented activities, such as the “Beat the Heat” Summer Saturation Drive, BYI Summer Youth Camps, and just recently, the hosting of the BIBLEMODE International Baptist Heritage Youth Convention.
